Masjid Negara (National Mosque) by nite

Malaysia's Masjid Negara is one of the largest mosques in Southeast Asia and is the spiritual centre for Malaysia's Muslims. Built on 5 landscaped hectares (12 acres) behind the railway station, the mosque consists of a grand prayer hall, mausoleum, library, and offices opening onto a courtyard. It has a 75-metre (245-foot) minaret. The roof is an umbrella-shaped dome with 18 points representing the 13 states of Malaysia and the Five Pillars of Islam.

Putrajaya (Part 2)

Putrajaya is a magnificent part of KL that you have to visit. The architecture of the buildings (as seen in the Putrajaya Mosque and the Prime Minister's office) are simply superb. Its a shame I couldn't explore the rest of this beautiful place due to lack of time. :-(

* check out http://mypokcik.fotopages.com/?entry=136334 for an amazing view point of the Seri Wawasan Bridge 8-) *

Putrajaya Mosque

Situated next to a lake, it incorporates Islamic architecture from countries such as Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Morocco. The mosque consists of a 116m tall minaret and can accommodate 15,000 people. The minaret is 116 meters tall and one of the striking features of the minaret is that it was designed after the Sheikh Oman Mosque in Baghdad.

Its five-tiers represent the five pillars of Islam and its five call to prayers. Within its premises is the VIP Room Gallery, the Al-Quran Manuscript Museum, a library, auditorium and exhibition hall as well as a seminar room. It also has a large courtyard called the â??Sahnâ?? dedicated to commemorate the life of the Prophet. The main entrance to the mosque is patterned after the gates of Persia.
